Evaluation Criteria for Priority Countries

Each country has been carefully selected by University Institutional Research and Reporting based on:

  • Number of IU international students
  • Number of IU students studying abroad
  • International activity by IU faculty members
  • International rankings
  • Variety of other measures such as qualitative and quantitative rankings; national, regional, and specialized disciplinary rankings; reports and studies

For each country, the Office of International Partnerships pursues partnerships with top institutions of higher education, working with academic units across IU to identify specific opportunities for collaboration.

Activities in Non-Priority Countries

Academic programs and offices at IU may pursue activities with partner institutions or organizations in countries that are not listed above. Preference will be given to partner institutions that rank at the highest levels nationally, regionally, or internationally. Occasionally partnerships are considered with less highly ranked institutions, as well as with organizations outside higher education, if they have special expertise or capacity of specific value. Any proposed activities should clearly advance the teaching, research, and outreach mission of IU.
